Red or Black: Which way did the ball go?
If you’ve been following events over the past few weeks relating to LeoVegas’ wonderful Red or Black campaign, you’ll know that February 11 was the key date for the big spin.
Rules of the game: One spin on Red or Black on a standard European roulette wheel for the chance to double your money to 20,000 Euros.
Competition winner: Daoud, pizza restaurant owner from Sweden.
Venue: VIP Room, Dragonara Casino, Malta.
Other notable guests: LeoVegas Ambassadors Patrick Ekwall (Sports journalist), Uffe Holm (Danish Comedian), Frank Andersson (semi-retired wrestler/TV personality); 10 LeoVegas lion mascots, nephews of Leo the lion; three additional LeoVegas VIP players; Daoud’s somewhat nervous wife.
Tension levels: Dangerously high.
Just warming up
You don’t go into battle on an empty stomach so Daoud, the Ambassadors and everyone else dined at Malta’s award-winning Thai Restaurant ‘The Blue Elephant’ before the big show. Sadly, Leo’s nephews were denied entry. ‘We just can’t take the risk, Sir. Lions are natural predators of elephants. But if they wait outside, we’ll go and cook them a few steaks.’ So a compromise was reached.
Did Daoud enjoy the meal? ‘It was brilliant. And a nice change from pizza.’
Post-dinner everyone made their way over to the Dragonara Casino. Nothing like a cool glass of Prosecco to calm the nerves given the magnitude of the event. A couple of people even had two glasses.
Daoud was then joined by our three VIP players for a Blackjack tournament, top prize a cool 1,000 Euros.
Four quickly became three, three became two and Daoud showed his all-round casino skills by making the last two in an all-Swedish clash with one of the VIP players.
20-odd years of interviewing some of the world’s greatest sports stars prepared Ambassador Patrick for the challenge of acting as croupier for a few hands. In the tournament he played the role to perfection: calm, composed, methodical and professional.
Which is more than can be said about Uffe. Once an entertainer, always an entertainer. And the comedian was typically exuberant, expressive and excitable. A croupier high-fiving players when they win? Yeah, that’s probably a first at the Dragonara Casino!
But when all was said and done, it was our Swedish VIP who had the last laugh, winning the top prize. Daoud finished second winning 500 Euros but then again, he had far bigger fish to fry anyway.
The 20,000 Euro question
If you’ve been following the LeoVegas Blog you’ll know that the colours Red and Black symbolize different things in different cultures; one of them is the luckiest colour of all in China.
But the question on everyone’s mind was: which colour was Daoud going to go with?
Here’s what everyone else thought he should choose.
According to Daoud, ever since he knew he’d won the tournament he’d also decided on Red.
But just to add to the drama of the whole occasion, a phone call was just about to add a real spanner to the works. Daoud called his daughter just a few minutes before the big spin and she told him in no uncertain terms:
‘You gotta go with Black, Daddy.’
Red or Black?
It’s one of the golden rules of any sport or gambling-related event that you simply have to trust your initial gut instinct. Any footballer who has ever taken a penalty in a big game will tell you that when walking up to put the ball on the spot you decide which way you’re shooting it and you stick with it. Even if it’s a question on ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ you go with your initial instinct, the answer that first came to you.
So what’s it going to, Daoud?
Here’s what happened next.
Well played, Daoud
So a wonderful evening was capped off with the result we were all hoping for.
A big congratulations to our lucky winner and a big thank you to all the members of the LeoVegas Casino who made it possible.
If Daoud is wondering what to spend 20,000 Euros on, we’ve come up with a few suggestions. Obvious items include a Savannah cat and a bottle of Montrachet 1978 wine.
You’ll have to wait another year for your own chance to be taking part in Red or Black but in the meanwhile, here’s everything you need to know about playing Live Roulette at LeoVegas – or pop over to Chambre Séparée place a bet on black 6. Maybe it will be your lucky number too?
