Interview with Laura
When LeoVegas recently got the chance to visit their Live Casino provider, Evolution Gaming, we were not disappointed. During the day, we got to see the Live Casino from the point of view of the Live Dealers.
Upon visiting the studio, we couldn’t help but feel we had found ourselves in a honeycomb of activity. A honeycomb with a technological umbilical cord. A place where the Live Dealers gave life to the cards, all streamed through HD to your mobile.
We sat down with Laura, one of the Live Dealers who you often find at the Celebrity Blackjack Party table, to get first-hand knowledge of what happens on the other side of the table.
Although appearing shy at first Laura became immediately more animated as soon as she sat behind the familiar Live Dealer table.
This interview has been edited for clarity and length.
Getting to know Laura
Hometown: Jurmala, Latvia
Previous occupation: Teacher, Nanny, Shop assistant, Accountant
Future aspirations: Study something in line with the environment, since it’s what really matters.
What celebrity would you love to see at one of your tables? Johnny Depp
Special skills: Bass guitar and drums and wish to surpass Dave Grohl one day soon.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Laura, but most players know me as Red. I’m originally from Jurmala, but I’ve been in Riga for about half of my life. hope to spend at least another half of my life here.
What are your favourite things about working at Evolution?
I’ve learnt a lot here. Especially confidence. It’s like a family. I feel like I belong here. I’m very close to all my colleagues, we’ve all become fast friends and often see each other outside of the work environment.
I’m especially close with Adrija, we have so much fun together. She can make every sound imaginable, from the call of a falcon to the cry of dolphin.
Is there anything that is a big no-no for a Live Dealer?
At the end of the day we’re human. So, obviously if we have an itch we need to scratch it. But a big no-no is to put your hands under the table, so you need to be careful with that.
We try to do is avoid controversial topics, you never know who might be at your table. Ideally you want to avoid any arguments between players.
They see you, but you can’t see them. It’s very weird when you start…
How does it feel when you are at the table?
It’s tricky at first, being in front of the camera. Usually when you talk to people you have eye contact and you can read their body language.
When you are a Live Dealer the visual cues are one-sided. They see you, but you can’t see them. It’s very weird when you start. But then you get used to it, and it gets easier.
Is there any LeoVegas event that sticks out in your mind?
‘Leo’ is great, it’s amazing and fun. The regular theme tables are fun. My favourite was the Star Wars Table, with loads of awesome characters, including Yoda and Mace Windu. I also remember the 5th birthday of LeoVegas with all the celebrations and extra promotions.
The themes are a great ice-breaker. The players always ask why we are wearing a certain outfit. It gets the conversation flowing making everyone more relaxed.
What feedback do you get from your friends and family when you tell them about your job?
They don’t always understand what it is that I do. But I’ve found an easy way to deal with it. I just go onto YouTube and find another Live Dealer and tell them, “that may not be me, but that’s what I do”.
10 questions in 25 seconds
Both Adrija and Laura had to answer 10 questions in the same time it takes to play a round in Evolutions new game Speed Roulette – 25 seconds.

Is there anything you do to make players feel more comfortable?
I always try to get the conversation going with our players, one of my favourite topics is music and often the players will get really into it and we’ll exchange our favourite bands. The next day they’ll come back and ask me what I thought of the band they suggested.
There are times though, when you can really struggle to get a conversation going. But I have a little trick to move things along. I just ask “Pineapple?”
Customers will quickly respond with yes or no answers. It’s the fruit’s equivalent to Marmite- you either like it or you don’t.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I love music, I’d love to become better at the bass guitar and drums. I want to speak at least three more languages. For me it’s not all about the money I make, I want more experiences, more life. I’d love to go skydiving!
Meet the Dealers
The Live Dealers get to pick their own schedules. That means you never know who is going to be sitting on the other side of the table. The Chambre Séparée is open 24 hours a day, so you can pull up a seat that suits you.
You’ll find an extra host and plenty of banter at the Celebrity Blackjack table between 17:00 and 02:00 CET.
