Under the Radar: Sunny Shores by Yggdrasil
Summer is well and truly here. We’re happy about that here at the LeoVegas Blog and we’re very rarely happy about anything. It’s not that we’re a miserable bunch, it’s just that we get tired of having to deal with everyday chores like eating, shopping, driving, sleeping, making coffee and so on when all we really want to do is play slots. Having to do all that stuff just makes us irritable.
So you can imagine how delighted we all were when we heard about the Sunny Shores slot. Yes, a new mobile slot about Summer was the best news we heard all day. Of course the following step was to go ahead and play it. So we did. Here’s what we made of it.
Play Sunny Shores on the beach, remember the sun screen
This new slot release comes to us courtesy of Yggdrasil, who make regular appearances here at Under the Radar. Mobile slots of theirs that we’ve reviewed include Chibeasties 2, Alchymedes, Beauty and the Beast, Winterberries and Vikings go Bezerk. Yggdrasil are a bit like Spaghetti Bolognaise. Probably not the first thing you’d order off a menu if you could choose absolutely anything but then again, it never disappoints you and you always know what you’re going to get.
If you’re going to hit a huge Jackpot this summer, sadly it won’t be on this game. Sunny Shores only has the one feature and isn’t a Progressive Jackpot slot. But it does have a top prize of 300x your stake, which isn’t bad.
As you’ll find out in a minute, this slot is all about sea, sun, sand and lots of fruit. So why not play it on your mobile at the beach while lying on your favourite towel as you munch on some sweet, fresh fruit? That’s a clever move. What isn’t a clever move is to forget to put sunscreen on. You’d never find any of the Baywatch lot forgetting to do that.
Not only is it very dangerous to not put it on but you look like a bit of a tool when you go bright red. You’re meant to eat lobster in the summer, not look like one.
A pearl that gatecrashes a fruit party
The first thing you’ll notice about this casino slot is a quirky little intro/trailer before you’ve even started playing. It involves a sun (or the sun to be more precise, seeing as there can only be one) having fun and then cooling off in the sea. As you do. Ok, it’s not quite in the same class as Warlords as far as trailers go. But then again, what is?
And there’s another thing you’ll notice straight away. It pays both ways, rather than just left to right. So there are some early bonus points for it right, there. Either side of the reels are some waterfalls, palm trees and surprise, surprise…some sunny shores.
Most of the symbols on the reels are fruits. Grapes, strawberries, watermelons, pineapples and bananas. We say most because there’s also a random pearl amongst the reels. Which happens to be the most valuable symbol, by the way. Five of those get you that 300x your stake payout we mentioned before.
Last but most certainly not least, is the sun. It’s the game’s Wild symbol and can substitute for all other symbols. This is normally the part where we say ‘except for the Scatter’. But we’re not going to say it this time round. Because there isn’t a Scatter. Yeah, we know. Those guys at Yggrdasil have caught too much sun, right? Well maybe but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a cool bonus feature to look forward to.
Re-Spin feature reminiscent of Mega Joker
Shall we talk about how to play Sunny Shores in terms of its bonus round? We shall.
The Sun really is the key symbol in this game. When it appears on the reels, it will expand to cover between two and four positions on the reels. And when that happens, you’ll get a re-spin. The Suns (yes, in this case we really do have to use it in the plural because there can be several of them) will stay locked in position during the re-spin and because you essentially have two, three or four Wilds on the reels, you’re likely to get a decent win.
And as a bonus (no pun intended), if you get an additional Wild during the re-spin, you’ll get another Re-Spin. Theoretically, you could keep getting more and more of them until the whole of the reels are filled with Suns.
Sunny Shores is like Mega Joker and Starburst in that it only has one bonus feature and it’s not free spins. Instead, all three have just the Re-Spins round as a feature though in fairness, they all do it well.
Simple and cute summer fun in Sunny Shores slot
You’ll play visually more impressive, more complex, exciting mobile slots with more time, work and money put into them…than this one.
And over the next few months you’ll find out about new releases at Under the Radar that are likely to keep you just that little bit more happy and entertained than Sunny Shores here. Because that’s a little bit the problem with this one, Mega Joker and (dare we say it given its incredible popularity), Starburst. The fact that you’re pretty much relying solely on that re-spin for excitement and decent wins always means the slot is slight limited.
But let’s not take too much away from Yggdrasil. They went out to make a cute, little feel-good slot with a real summer vibe to it and that’s exactly what they achieved.
This is a slot for those wanting to get in the summer mood and for players who enjoy uncomplicated, low-volatility slots. Because of the ‘win both ways’ facility and the fact that the Re-Spin always guarantees some sort of win, your balance will never go down too quickly. But then again, because of the mechanics of the game and no quick-and-easy way to guarantee yourself really big wins out of the blue, it won’t go up too quickly either, unless you secure five of a high-paying symbol like the pearl.
Like a Magnum ice cream on a hot day, it is what it is. You’re not going to be rushing to tell your friends about it on Social Media but it hits the spot while you’re eating it.
To play Sunny Shores for real money you must first open a LeoVegas account. Doing so takes less time than eating a Magnum. True story.
