NetEnt secure the rights to make Planet of the Apes Video Slot
Normally we’d say ‘Put the 10th September’ in your diary. Or ‘tell your girlfriend that for the first week of October she should re-read all the Bridget Jones books (followed by the three movies) because you’ll be unavailable.’
But this time round we can’t give you an exact date for the release of the new Planet of the Apes Video Slot because…it hasn’t yet been announced. All we know, hot off the press, is that it will be in the second half of 2017.
But let’s just take a moment to digest the key part of all this: there’s going to be a Planet of the Apes Video Slot!
Yeah, that’s right. That would be NetEnt’s Planet of the Apes Video Slot. The Planet of the Apes franchise is one of the biggest ever never to have been the inspiration for a casino slot.
But how do we know this?
Well, we know it because Simon Hammon, Chief Product Officer of NetEnt, said in a press release: “Planet of the Apes is one of the largest film franchises in the world never to have been applied to gaming before.’ Glad we cleared that one up.
That NetEnt got the gig is no surprise. They’re arguably the biggest and best game operator of them all and with a project of this size and significance. Especially after NetEnt are fresh from releasing slots like Wild Wild West: the Great Train Heist, which could go well go on to be a huge hit. Or more fluffy, feathery games like Scruffy Duck.
Planet of the Apes Video Slot likely to be rich in features
It is admittedly quite rare for the biggest slots of all to be Jackpot games. Especially those based on franchises or just big movies or comic books in general. Hard to explain why: it’s just like that.
Our instinct is that following on from the two just mentioned, NetEnt’s Planet of the Apes will have plenty of bonus features but no Jackpots.
That was certainly the case with ‘Red’ and ‘Warlords’ which had some of the best features we’ve seen in a long time and it wasn’t just quality, it was quantity. Both had lots of different features and in the case of Warlords, three different types of free spins, too.
So that’s what our instinct tells us.
Then again, our instinct also told us: the Brits don’t like change that much so Brexit was never going to happen, Trump was too inexperienced in politics to ever be elected US President and that ‘Brangelina’ were soul mates for life. They ended up not even being soul mates for the whole of 2016. So we’ll have to wait and see.
But we don’t need our instinct to tell us this game will be available on mobile as well as desktop. We just needed common sense. And a briefing from NetEnt which read. ‘Planet of the Apes will be available on all mobile devices.’
Will Charlton Heston be a symbol in the new slot?
If you’re not really into sci-fi, here’s a very brief summary of what Planet of the Apes is all about.
Actually, let’s start with what it’s not about.
It’s not about Pete Sampras, the former US tennis star who was as hairy as he was brilliant in a long career that saw him win just about every tournament in the world. Yeah, he was a very hairy man but he wasn’t that hairy.
Although there have been several films and TV Series, all with different characters and storylines, one thing remained constant.
Planet of the Apes is essentially about how humans risk becoming overpowered by more intelligent, ambitious and resourceful apes. If more of the world’s population were like Miley Cyrus and Jessica Simpson, it’s actually not that far-fetched that it could happen.
It’s also about the interaction between the humans and apes and how they each consider themselves superior to the other. So a bit like Kanye West considers himself superior to…everyone.
In the original 1968 film the central character- an astronaut who believes he’s landed with his spaceship on a Planet occupied by highly intelligent Apes- was played by Charlton Heston in one of cinema’s most iconic-ever roles.
There were less stars in the sequels throughout the 1970s but then the subsequent releases went back to having a star name in the main role.
The 2001 version starred Mark Wahlberg and the 2011 version had James Franco in it. So it will be interesting to see which of the three actors will be featured as symbols in the new NetEnt Planet of the Apes Video Slot. Maybe all three.
What we’d expect however would be a combination of Ape symbols and human symbols. But which will be the more valuable ones? What will the Scatter symbol be?
You’ll know the exact date when we do
This slot has all the ingredients to be just about the most high profile and important slot release of 2017.
We’ve got the biggest game provider in the industry making a slot based on one of cinema’s best known franchises and it will coincide with the release of ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ in July this year, the latest film of the series.
When you get the big press release from NetEnt saying they’re very excited about this project, you know they mean business and much will be expected of it.
Watch this space for Planet of the Apes’ exact release date. You’ll know as soon as we know. In the mean time we suggest you to check out any of our other popular slots at LeoVegas.com
